How the EAA impacts design – more than just a website issue

When you think of accessibility, you probably picture a website with alt text and keyboard navigation. But the European Accessibility Act (EAA) goes much further than that.

It affects design at every level:
🎨 Branding & graphics—color contrast, typography, and readability matter.
📱 Digital content—Infographics, PDFs, and videos must be accessible.
🛍️ E-commerce—Product descriptions, checkout flows, and customer comms must be usable for all.

Yet, many businesses rely on DIY design tools like Canva or cheap Fiverr gigs—which often don’t meet accessibility standards. A template doesn’t know if the colors are too faint for visually impaired users or if your text-to-background contrast is compliant.

That’s why working with an expert designer matters. Accessibility isn’t just a legal requirement—it’s about making your business open to everyone.

In my next blog, I will look at the real cost of getting accessibility wrong—and how many customers you could be losing.
